Moving From ClickUp, Jira, Linear or Asana: A Week Without Regret
Switching tools feels risky because it is: lose a week of work and your team will hate the new tool before they have used it. The safe way is to pilot with a copy, prove the numbers match, and only then move people over.
The plan, day by day
- Day 1: export your tasks from the old tool as a CSV. Nothing changes for anyone.
- Day 2: import into Alignr. Match the columns, read the preview, import. Check a handful of tasks by eye.
- Days 3 to 4: one small team works in the copy while the old tool stays the source of truth.
- Day 5: compare, fix anything missing, and decide.
How to export
| Tool | Where the export lives |
|---|---|
| ClickUp | Space or List menu, Export, CSV |
| Jira | Search issues, Export, CSV with all fields |
| Linear | Settings, Import / Export, export issues as CSV |
| Asana | Project menu, Export / Print, CSV |
| Trello | Use a board-to-CSV export; Trello's own export is JSON |
| monday.com / Notion | Export the board or database, then save or download as CSV |
What carries across
- Tasks with titles and descriptions, and their statuses as board columns.
- People, matched by name or email to your team. Anyone who isn't on the team is left unassigned.
- Labels, priorities, start and due dates, and when something was finished.
- Subtasks, attached to their parents.
Why it is safe to try
Importing the same file twice never duplicates tasks, so you can run it, look, and run it again. Nothing is written until you press Import, and the preview shows exactly what will be created. The column mapping is yours to correct if the guess is wrong, and dates like 03/04/2026 can be read day-first or month-first.
Try an import with a copy of one project.
